Did you know I used to teach at St Thomas'? I was there when they started their vegie patch, so saw it develop from nothing to what it is now. Mrs Gridley's son was one of the students. The whole school helped decorate the pots to make it very colourful. Did you like their chook pen as well?
Happy planting, picking and cooking
Cheers Mrs Bellesini

Wow, it sounds like their garden is great.
Having a vegetable garden is a lot of hard work, but it is really worth it - home-grown carrots, broccoli and potatoes taste so much better than the ones you buy at most shops.

Do you all feel inspired to grow more vegies at home and at school now?

I am very impressed that they have a pizza oven!

Bye for now,
Jacqui Johnson

Hi Juniors D,
I loved reading your wonderings and discoveries about St. Thomas' Sustainable garden. Like Mrs Bellesini I too worked at St. Thomas Primary School for many years. My grade always loved visiting the school garden. They loved cleaning out the chook shed, watering the garden, and helping out where they could. In the early days of setting up the garden my grade was lucky enough to get to set up the worm farm. A highlight of our garden visits was the days when we made pizza in the pizza oven. It looks like you are learning lots about food in inquiry. Keep up the great learning.
