It was so exciting today. Our bunnies have arrived and they will be with us for four weeks. The mother bunny is called 'Ruby' and she has six babies (kittens). They are so cute!! We are going to learn how to care for them and how to be responsible animal carers.

Waiting for our Bunnies

We are waiting for our bunnies to arrive! While we are waiting we have made our own pet rabbits out of cotton wool and cotton buds. They are so cute! We drew their habitat on a plate and this is their home. Hopefully our new bunnies will arrive soon! Our Bunnies on PhotoPeach

Our Vet Nurse Visit

Today we had Erin, Tara and Kirri visit us in our classroom. They came to talk to us about caring for dogs and behaving responsibly around dogs. They told us that we need to provide our dogs with fresh water everyday, food, shelter and exercise. It is also important to brush them and keep them clean. Siena had the chance to dress up like a vet going in to surgery. We were able to pat Kirri but only after we talked about how to be safe around dogs. We were told to stand still and look down to the ground or make ourselves as small as we can and hide our heads if we met a dog without it's owner. Thank you for coming to visit us. Which Unit?

Today we were given a streamer measuring one metre and one unifix block. We had to find 5 objects in the classroom to measure using the streamer or block. We discovered that if we are measuring large objects then we would measure with the streamer but if we were measuring smaller objects then we would measure with the unifix block. We also discovered that the distance around an object is the perimeter.

Preps Taking Photos!

Last week we had our first go at taking photos around the classroom with our class camera. We had a go at zooming in and out, keeping our arms still and choosing an interesting item to photograph. Over the next few weeks we will continue to take photos of our bunnies and chickens!

What is important in the Easter Story?

We listened to the story of Easter and then discussed the parts that were important to each of us. Some of us thought Jesus dying on the cross was important, others thought Jesus rising on Easter Sunday was important, while someone else thought helping Jesus carry the cross was important. Here are our representations of what is important to us!

How Far Can We Jump?

Today we went outside to see how far we could jump in the long jump pit. Mrs David measured our jumps with streamers. Then we came inside and taped our streamers to the floor and then we had to guess who made the longest and shortest jump. Afetr we guessed we then used unifix cubes to measure the exact length. We discovered that Ava made the longest jump which was 76 blocks long and Samuel made the shortest jump which was 47 blocks long. We remembered to make sure that we left no gaps between our blocks when we were measuring. We had heaps of fun doing this activity! How Far Can We Jump? on PhotoPeach

Learning About Rabbits from Chloe and Amy

This afternoon we had some special guest speakers. They came to share their knowledge about caring for rabbits. We also found out information about rabbits from reading a book, watching youtube and reading a fact sheet on the computer.
Some of the new facts we found out were -
1. Rabbits eat apples
2. Rabbits are born with their eyes closed
3. Baby rabbits do not have fur when they are born
4. Baby rabbits cannot see or hear when they are born
5. Baby rabbits are called kittens
6. Mother rabbits are called does
7. A daddy rabbit is called a buck
8. Rabbits only eat plants (They are called herbivores)

We are getting very excited because baby rabbits are coming to our classroom in 5 sleeps!

Having Fun Measuring!

We explored and discovered some important facts about measuring. We found out that the units you use to measure have to be the same length, you can not leave spaces between your units and you have to use the same unit to measure one whole object. We were surprised to find out which was the longest snake because we didn't predict the right one!
