Olden Day Dolls

In the olden days, children often made their own toys. On Friday we created our own dolls. As we selected material for clothes and pasted on wool for hair, the dolls quickly became our new little toys. Olden Day Dolls on PhotoPeach

Learning From Veronica

Today the Junior classes had the opportunity to learn about life in the olden days from one of our grandparents. We discovered some new things ~
  • school went from Prep to Grade 8
  • children used to walk a long way to get to school
  • children played jacks, skippy and hopscotch
  • footballs were made out of newspaper to play with
  • families had an outside toilet that was emptied by a nightman
  • a milkman and iceman used to make deliveries to the houses
  • there was no fridge so food was stored in an ice chest
Veronica is sharing her experiences with us.
Footballs were made out of newspaper.

Children used to play 'Pick Up Sticks'.

Each grade had one reader for the year.

Girls sometimes had one special doll.

Children played 'knuckles'.
